On September 9, 2017 ten recent Academy of Art University graduates earned the honor of showcasing their uniquely inspired designs at Skylight Clarkson Square in New York City. Recent MFA grad Eden Slezin exhibited a perhaps surprisingly chic, San Francisco-inspired collection, rife with organic vintage denim and recycled materials. Other Academy of Art University graduates unveiled fashion lines inspired by wide-ranging subjects, from fleeing Palestinian ancestors (featuring lightweight wool knits and lambskin leather) to snow forms of Hokkaido (as conveyed via soft, oversized silhouettes).
At Fashion Week, Graduates of the Academy of Art and their fashion lines have received such distinctions as CFDA Fashion Future Graduate Digital Showcase, CFDA Fashion Future Graduate Showcase, and CFDA Elaine Gold Launch Pad. It’s no surprise that many of these students have earned widely sought after internships with acclaimed international fashion houses, from Max Studio to BCBGMAXAZRIA to SHUSHU/TONG.
The University, whose motto is “Built by artists for artists,” is the largest privately owned art and design school in the United States. In addition to education for all things fashion, Academy of Art University students seek bachelor’s and master’s degrees in over twenty subjects, from photography to art history to interior design and acting. For even more freedom, the University offers many fully-online degrees in the fields of architecture, fashion journalism, game design, illustration, and much more. With students and programs as diverse as the city of San Francisco itself, it’s no wonder the Academy of Art University reveals graduates who make such splashes in the fashion world, and beyond!
